In the Water
Being an island with over 70 miles of coastline, it's only natural that Barbados would offer a host of thrilling activities for watersports enthusiasts.

Surfing : The internationally famous Soup Bowl is here, on the Atlantic side at Bathsheba, where the winds & waves make for ideal surfing conditions. The Reef Bowl Independence Pro competition is held in early November. But all along the east coast there are great spots to catch a wave no matter what your skill level. www.surfing-barbados.com, www.zedssurftravel.com

Windsurfing & Wavesailing : The south coast offers the best conditions for windsurfers--best time is November to July. Best place to learn: Sandy Beach (aka Carib Beach). Beginners and intermediates will also like Maxwell & Hastings. |
| |
Kitesurfing: New on the scene, an exhilarating combo of surfing/windsurfing/wakeboarding . Big plus: you don't need much wind or waves so almost any beach will do, but Long Beach & Casuarina are faves.
Bajan Buzz : The Barbados Waterman Festival , celebrating surfing, windsurfing & kitesurfing, is held in February.
Whisper: Brian Talma the island's windsurfing champ, runs the Irie Man Action Shop at Silver Rock, where you can get equipped and pick up a tip or two.

Snorkeling: Pop your head underwater at almost any point and you'll probably find a mélange of marine life from seahorses to parrotfish. Both Folkstone Marine Park on the west coast and Carlisle Bay Marine Park in the south have designated snorkeling areas with wrecks that have become home to a rainbow of colorful sea life.

Diving: Two coasts, two barrier reefs, wrecks galore and a climate that affords year-round diving conditions--can you ask for more?
